About Labor Studies

Labor Studies is an interdisciplinary minor examining workplace organizing, power, and social change. Grounded in the experiences of workers and working class communities, the program also addresses questions of gender, race, LGBTQ+ identity, migration, and environmental justice. Students examine the conditions of work across formal and informal workplaces, such as care work, prison labor, and the criminalization of work, and analyze how policies, technological change, globalization, and climate change reshape the nature of work.

Labor Studies Internships & Career Opportunities

Through a required internship with a labor or community organization, students gain hands-on experience with organizing strategies and alternative models of advancing workers’ rights and social justice. The Labor Studies minor prepares students for careers in community and labor organizing, leadership, labor law, workforce education, non-profit management, public service, and policy advocacy.
